Cramer-Rao lower bound for frequency estimation in multipath Rayleigh fading channels

چکیده
This paper concerns the estimation of a frequency o set of a known (pilot) signal propagated through a slowly fading multipath channel, such that channel parameters are considered to be constant over the observation interval. We derive a Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) and maximum likelihood (ML) frequency estimation algorithm for additive Gaussian noise and path amplitudes having complex zeromean Gaussian distribution when covariance matrices of the fading and noise are known. In particular, we consider the scenarios with white noise, independent fading of path amplitudes and pilot signals with a diagonal correlation matrix. We compare simulation results for the ML estimator with the CRLB. We also show that the results obtained can be extended to scenarios with fast fading channels.

Bayesian Cramer-Rao bounds for complex gain parameters estimation of slowly varying Rayleigh channel in OFDM systems
This paper deals with on-line Bayesian Cramer-Rao (BCRB) lower bound for complex gains dynamic estimation of time-varying multi-path Rayleigh channels. We propose three novel lower bounds for 4QAM OFDM systems in case of negligible channel variation within one symbol, and assuming both channel delay and Doppler frequency related information. We derive the true BCRB for data-aided (DA) context a...

This paper investigates the prediction of single input single output (SISO) narrowband multipath fading channels for mobile-to-mobile wireless communications. Using a statistical model for mobile to mobile urban and suburban channels, we derive a parametrized model and utilize the ESPRIT algorithm to extract the effective Doppler frequencies from noisy channel estimates. The parameter estimates...
متن کاملBit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)
In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...
متن کاملCramer-Rao bounds in the estimation of time of arrival in fading channels
This paper computes the Cramer-Rao bounds for the time of arrival estimation in a multipath Rice and Rayleigh fading scenario, conditioned to the previous estimation of a set of propagation channels, since these channel estimates (correlation between received signal and the pilot sequence) are sufficient statistics in the estimation of delays. Furthermore, channel estimation is a constitutive b...
متن کاملAn enhanced channel estimation algorithm for OFDM: combined EM algorithm and polynomial fitting
Estimating a channel that is subject to frequency selective Rayleigh fading is a challenging problem in an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. In this paper we propose an enhanced channel estimation algorithm that combines the EM-based algorithms proposed previously and a Least Squares polynomial fitting (LSPF) approach. The combined algorithm can efficiently estimate the ...
